Huntingdonshire Music School Association - Social

Recognising the social side of t’Internet which suits us down to the ground - as we’re a pretty social organisation - I thought it might be an idea to create a Huntingdonshire Music School group on Facebook. Everyone has their favourite apps, sites and ways of using the technology so it just seemed sensible to provide those with a Facebook account (seemingly almost anyone of any age nowadays) with a way to keep up with us.

As with all the Facebook groups it provides:-

• a’wall’ on which to place short comments
• discussion topics
• a place to see forthcoming events
• a place to upload photos and videos associate with the music school

Just ‘cos we’re nice guys and we can, we’ve created a widget that picks up the feed from our brand new Huntingdonshire Music School group on the Flickr photo-sharing/social site and displays the last 30 pictures. You can then click on a photo to view it in your browser or on the name of the person who posted the picture to see their photos.

For the last few summers we’ve organised trips at the beginning of the summer holidays. These are always lively and consist of a mixture of performance, sight-seeing and plain old social relaxation. To date we’ve been to Wertheim (Germany)/Paris [2006], Kirchheim (Austria) [2007] and this summer we travelled to the Isle of Man [2008].

The planning is now well under way for the 2009 trip to Norfolk and is open to anyone at the school. Not everyone who goes on these trips plays - they tend to be very much family affairs. As Norfolk is relatively close to home it will enable some to join us for a short time and return home. This hasn’t been possible for the longer trips overseas and as a result some folks have missed out.

• Aylsham Church - joint performance with The Ipswich & Norwich Brass Band
• Mannington Hall & Gardens
