Raunds Temperance Brass Band - Huntingdon 4th June 2011, 12-2pm

The Raunds Temperance Brass Band will be taking part in Huntingdon Town Council’s Outdoor Music Performances and providing a free concert on Saturday 4th June 2011 between 12:00 and 14:00 at the bandstand near the Anglian Water offices in Huntingdon.

The band (www.raundstemperancebrassband.co.uk) was formed c 1886 and features some from the Huntingdonshire Music School. It has a wide range of repertoire (e.g. some of the sorts of music on an iTunes playlist) and is very good (narrowly avoided the finals of the national brass band championships)

Want to SIng with a Big Band as Your Backing Group? SIng with Swing Workshop (19th March)

Saturday 19th March, 2pm – 5pm and Sunday 20th March, 10am – 6pm, Buckden

The Sing with Swing Workshop 2011 is being led by professional singer, Bridget Hardy in Buckden on the afternoon of Saturday 19th March 2011, 2pm – 5pm and the morning of Sunday 20th March, 10am – 1pm. The workshop will include individual master classes and cover singing in the swing style and microphone technique.

At 2pm the HuMS Big Band will join the workshop providing live backing for all the singers. Please select three songs from the provided list at the time of booking.

Participants may be invited to join the HuMS Big Band in a fund raising concert on Friday 25th March, 7.30pm – a great opportunity to lead a song and show off to friends and family the skills learnt and developed at the Sing with Swing Workshop 2011. Tickets for this event will be on sale at the workshop, costing just £5.

This workshop has been organised by HuMSA (Huntingdonshire Music School Association), a registered charity supporting musical education in the Huntingdonshire region through provision of bursaries to children and other activities

Sing with Swing 2011 Workshop - 19th & 20th march 2011

Concert of vocal and instrumental music

HuMS singers and guests will be performing a concert in St Mary’s Church, St Neots at 19:30 on Saturday the 19th September. Tickets, available at the door, are priced at £5 and £3 for concessions.

A chance to hear a range of music in this delightful church. The concert will include modern and traditional songs and duets, and some instrumental pieces, including a flute, violin and ‘cello trio. Everyone is welcome.

BBC Radio 4 - Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain - iPlayer + Tues 18th Aug

Heard a 30 min programme on Radio 4 about the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain today. Absolutely brilliant! Not at all what you might think - and the subject of being stereotyped by the Ukulele was discussed.

They clearly have a lot of fun playing everything from classical through to punk and current pop and rock including playing with the likes of The Kaiser Chiefs. They remind me very much of the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra and Derek Hasted - those who’ve seen them will know what I mean and both orchestras play the theme tune to the Dick Barton detective series.

The BBC Radio 4 programme is available on BBC Play It Again until the 23rd August.

They will be taking part in the Proms at the Albert Hall and can be heard on BBC Radio 3 at 22:00 on Tuesday 18th August.

Less than 2 weeks to go to the Norfolk Tour and all the final details are dropping into place. Thank you to everyone who has been practising hard, have got payments to us and are ready for a good weekend.
