Introduction
Within the music school we have many diverse musical talents. John Mallett is a specialist in medieval instruments and regularly tours as part of The Troubadors.
Listen to an audio introduction to the event with some sample music.
We are offering two afternoon sessions in which there will be an opportunity to learn a little about music from the late mediaeval and renaissance periods with two members of a group who have been playing early music as semi-professional entertainers for over twenty years – The Troubadours. If you are not really sure what sort of music this is and what instruments it might have been played on, then this is your opportunity to find out a little more, and be entertained. Prepare to enjoy yourself! If you have a passionate desire to try playing this sort of music or these sorts of instruments, then this might also be an opportunity.
There are 10 places available for full participants who wish take active part with the aim of preparing 5 or more short pieces to a basic performance level. These participants are expected to be of Grade 5 or higher and will need to be able to attend both sessions (the first being essential preparation for the second).
The second session, on the 23rd February, is open to a much larger group who will be an audience but who will also be encouarged to participate in some pieces. This session will also have a greater component of demonstration and explanation. In order that planning of music and instruments can be done we need to know who intends to participate and what instruments they play (allowing us to select appropriate music and instruments).
If you are interested then please complete and return the questionnaire. If you wish to participate then please register soon
